Stream Focus

Release Notes

Stream Focus v0.7.2-alpha

An upgrade to Login & Authorization!

Discord Authentication has been an inconvenient, unreliable middle-man. I initially used it because it was easier to get up and running. But it’s caused so many headaches…

  1. Since login was tied to Discord, if their servers ever had outages, users couldn’t log in to Stream Focus.
  2. The role bot was finicky and sometimes wouldn’t give members their required roles for login.
  3. There were so many extra steps involved just to verify a user’s membership.
  4. Using Discord roles to gain access to an app is not standard, so the user experience was confusing.

So it’s time for a long-overdue upgrade…

Added

  1. Login/Auth – Stream Focus now authenticates directly with the PixelFire Games website instead of using Discord/roles as a middle-man.
    What this means:
    • Faster, simpler login
      1. Login is now a lot faster, more reliable, and more intuitive.
      2. You stay logged in indefinitely (unless you log out or cancel your membership).
      3. After your first login, reopening Stream Focus gets you in near-instantly.
    • Discord no longer required
      1. You no longer need to join the Discord server to get access to Stream Focus.
      2. Note: Discord will continue to be the central place for support, bugs, feature-requests, announcements etc. But it now has nothing to do with verifying your membership. So if you want to leave, you’re free to go! 😂

Here's a visual to showcase this improved access flow...

As always, PLEASE let me know if you notice any issues with this. I believe everything is working correctly. But if this new login system doesn’t behave as you’d expect…if you see a status message that doesn’t make sense…a blank screen…lag…anything that seems “off”…please let me know!
